Click for printer friendly pdf file
The Orofino dynasty began with the merging of two families, Giovannozzi and Orofino. The Giovannozzi family originated from Pescara and Teramo (Abruzzo). The Orofino family came from Palermo and Caltagirone (Sicily).
Francesco and Lucia Giovannozzi had seven children. They decided to move to Wilmington, Delaware to pursue the American dream in 1906. The youngest daughter Rose (Orsola), while vacationing in Italy, met Giuseppe Nuzzo, a Colonel in the Italian army, a lawyer and the mayor of Acerra. They married and lived in Naples. They had one daughter, Giovanna.

The Orofino family started when Pasquale and Giacomina Federico married. Pasquale Orofino was a policeman and died very young. Giacomina then raised her two sons, Giorgio and Francesco. The family was very poor and she made many sacrifices in order for her two children to attend college in Naples. The sons received college degrees in Engineering. They began constructing residential and commercial buildings after World War II and in 1975 the first hotel: Grand Hotel Suisse Resort & Spa.
Francesco later met Giovanna Nuzzo and they got married. They had three boys: Giorgio, Fabio and Luca. Giorgio became a lawyer and Fabio and Luca became engineers. Francesco and his three sons began working together building and buying hotels and resorts. With a lot of sacrifices and diligent entrepreneurship, they created one of the largest family owned four - star hotel chains in Italy: Aurum Hotels ®.
